Dixon selected for Poynter Institute Leadership Academy
Kim Dixon, MedTech Dive lead editor, has been selected for the Poynter Institute’s Leadership Academy for Women in Media, the Institute announced Tuesday.
Dixon joins 31 women in the third cohort of the program, which shifted to an online format this year.
“Every cohort inspires because we see the members’ ongoing commitment and passion for journalism,” said Doris Truong, director of training and diversity at Poynter. “These are also leaders who are dedicated to self-improvement that will have a ripple effect with their staff as they work toward more diverse and inclusive news products.”
Dixon came to Industry Dive in 2017. She started her journalism career covering the FDA at Bloomberg News, reported on hospitals and insurers and also edited Politico's first health newsletter from Brussels. She spent more than a decade at Reuters covering health and later tax policy.
The Leadership Academy is one of Poynter’s most competitive programs. It is designed for women and nonbinary journalists who directly manage people. During the program — which will be hosted online Nov. 7-12 because of the pandemic — participants learn to manage teams more effectively, hone and communicate their strategic vision, and steer their organizations toward greater success, according to Poynter.
