Education Dive journalist Naaz Modan honored for Reporting on Disability
Education Dive: K-12 associate editor Naaz Modan won honorable mention for small media in the 2020 Katherine Schneider Awards for Excellence in Reporting on Disability this week.
The awards, sponsored by the National Center on Disability and Journalism at Arizona State University, recognized Modans story " Special needs students often pay price in efforts to strengthen school safety ," published in February. The article revealed that changes in the law have meant that children with disabilities in Florida are being involuntarily committed to mental health facilities when its not always necessary.
The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication held a virtual awards ceremony on Nov. 2. See a full list of the winners here .
Modan covers education policy, curriculum, school safety, equity issues, and, most recently, the pandemic's impact on K-12.
