Media Business Interview - Content Management Systems & Mobile
I spoke with Media Business about managing content for the mobile ecosystem the other day. You can read the interview here .
The headline of the article (Griffey sees content management as editorial education issue) made me cringe slightly. It sounds as if I think untrained editors are a problem with mobile content management. That is not the case.
My basic point in the interview was that mobile content should not be a technology issue. A publisher's content management system shouldn't dictate what happens on mobile. If it is, you are never going to be able to keep up with the pace of change in media today.
What is important is helping editorial understand what type of content will work well for a mobile audience. Some forms of content, such as infographics, tend to be a bad idea on a smartphone. The screen is just too small to display a complicated one easily. Items such as video and slideshows can work well. When producing mobile content, you just need to be mindful about which is going to work best.
